RESUMO

A novel class of o-carboranyl luminophores, 2CB-BuDABNA (1) and 3CB-BuDABNA (2) is reported, in which o-carborane moieties are incorporated at the periphery of the B,N-doped multi-resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) core. Both compounds maintain the inherent local emission characteristics of their MR-emitting core, exhibiting intense MR-TADF with high photoluminescence quantum yields in toluene and rigid states. In contrast, the presence of the dark lowest-energy charge transfer state, induced by cage rotation in THF, is suggested to be responsible for emission quenching in a polar solvent. Despite the different arrangement of the cage on the DABNA core, both 1 and 2 show red-shifted emissions compared to the parent compound BuDABNA (3). By utilizing 1 as the emitter, high-efficiency blue organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) are achieved with a remarkable maximum external quantum efficiency of 25%, representing the highest reported efficiency for OLEDs employing an o-carboranyl luminophore as the emitter.

RESUMO

Three donor-acceptor-type thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters (PXZBAO (1), PXZBTO (2), and PXZBPO (3)) comprising a phenoxazine (PXZ) donor and differently π-expanded boron-carbonyl (BCO) hybrid acceptor units are proposed. The emitters exhibit red (1) to orange (3) emissions with an increase in the π-expansion in the BCO acceptors. The control of the strength of local aromaticity for the BCO unit and the corresponding LUMO level is attributed to inducing the unusual emission color shifts. The photoluminescence quantum yield and delayed fluorescence lifetime of the emitters are also adjusted by the π-expansion. Notably, although 1 possesses a 3nπ* state in the acceptor unit as a local triplet excited state (3LE, T2), the T2 states of 2 and 3 mainly comprise a 3ππ* state in the acceptor. Consequently, all of the emitters exhibit strong spin-orbit coupling between their T2 and excited singlet (S1) states, leading to a fast reverse intersystem crossing with rate constants of ∼106 s-1. By employing the emitters as dopants, we realize efficient red-to-orange TADF-OLEDs. Maximum external quantum efficiencies of 17.7% for the yellowish-orange (3), 15.5% for the orange (2), and 13.9% for the red (1) devices are achieved, and the values are very close to the theoretical limit predicted from the optical simulation.

RESUMO

Compared to Ir(III) complexes with octahedral geometries, Pt(II) complexes with square planar geometries show superior optical properties because their flat shapes lead to an orientation that enhances the outcoupling of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). However, the flat shapes of Pt(II) complexes typically induce a bathochromic shift, limiting their application in high-performance deep-blue phosphorescent OLEDs with high color purity. In this study, bulky trimethylsilyl (TMS)-substituted blue phosphorescent Pt(II) complex (PtON7-TMS) is successfully synthesized to improve color purity. The TMS substituent containing Si atom effectively suppresses intermolecular interaction and aggregation even when the complex concentration in the film state is higher than 30 wt %. As a result, the PtON7-TMS-based OLEDs exhibit a maximum external quantum efficiency of 21.4%, along with a pure-blue color of CIE (0.14, 0.09) at 20 wt % doping concentration and a full-width at half maximum of 30 nm. The pure blue color is maintained at a higher doping concentration (>30 wt %).

RESUMO

Repeated or chronic stressful stimuli induce emotion- and mood-related abnormalities, such as anxiety and depression. Conversely, regular exercise exerts protective effects. Here, we found that exercise recovered anxiety-like behaviors, as measured using the open field and elevated plus maze tests in an anxiety mouse model. In addition to behavioral improvement, exercise enhanced the synaptic density of the 5-hydroxytryptamine 2A receptor (5-HT2AR), but not the 5-HT1AR in the basolateral amygdala (BLA) region in this mouse model. Furthermore, global treatment with a selective 5-HT2AR antagonist (MDL11930) generated an anxiety phenotype. Thus, synaptic recruitment of 5-HT2AR in BLA neurons may mediate the anxiolytic effects of exercise. The exercise regimen also reduced adenosine A2A receptor (A2AR)-mediated protein kinase A (PKA) activation, and the anxiolytic effect of the exercise was blunted by local activation of A2AR within the BLA using CGS21680, a selective A2AR agonist. Particularly, A2AR-mediated PKA activity was shown to be dependent on 5-HT2AR signaling in the BLA. These results imply that repeated stress upregulates A2AR-mediated adenosine signaling to facilitate PKA activation, whereas regular exercise inhibits A2AR function by increasing 5-HT2AR in the BLA. Accordingly, this integrated modulation of 5-HT and adenosine signaling, via 5-HT2AR and A2AR respectively, may be a mechanism underlying the anxiolytic effect of regular exercise.

RESUMO

An abdominal aortic aneurysm doesn't result in specific symptoms, and so providing a successful diagnosis can be challenging. Patients may require surgery for successful treatment, with the risk of aortic rupture being dependent on diameter. In this study, a CT screen of a patient with an aneurysm of the abdominal aorta was processed. In order to provide a more accurate and comfortable diagnosis, and to more easily determine the diameter of the abdominal aortic aneurysm, the Sobel and Top-hat methods were employed. Using a filtered screen overlap for the CT scan, the aortic diameter of a patient could be compared with the diameter of a healthy individual, thus allowing an immediate and accurate comparison. It was found that with a diameter of more than 40 mm the risk of rupture is higher.

RESUMO

[Purpose] This study was conducted in order to examine the effects of t'ai chi on females in their 20s with acute low back pain. The subjects were 30 females in their 20s with acute low back pain. [Subjects and Methods] They were equally and randomly divided into a t'ai chi group and a stretching group. The intervention was applied three times per week, one hour each time, for a total of eight weeks. During the one hour, the subjects conducted warm-up exercises for 10 min, primary exercises for 40 min, and cool-down exercises for 10 min. In order to examine changes in low back pain in the patients according to the intervention method, muscle activity, pain, and balance elements (left and right side movement distance, forward and backward movement distance) were measured. [Results] Muscle activity and the visual analog scale score significantly decreased in both the t'ai chi group and the stretching group. Regarding changes in balance elements, the t'ai chi group's left and right side movement distance decreased, which was statistically significant. However, the t'ai chi group's forward and backward movement distance and the stretching group's forward and backward movement distance and left and right side movement distance did not change. [Conclusion] According to the results of this study, t'ai chi is considered an appropriate exercise program to reduce acute low back pain in females in their 20s. This is because when compared with stretching, it enables posture maintenance with lesser force due to decreased muscle activity, it is more helpful for improvements in balance ability, and it is effective in decreasing pain.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics of muscular strength in upper limb and to present the preliminary information for development of sports injury prevention program and exercise rehabilitation program in wheelchair tennis players. Participants were 12 male wheelchair tennis players. Muscular strength was measured in shoulder and elbow joints with isokinetic dynamometer. Ipsilateral (IR) and bilateral (BR) balance ratio were calculated with isokinetic strength at 60°/sec. As a result, extension strength (ES) was significantly higher than flexion strength (FS) (P< 0.001), and IR in both sides and BR in ES were maintained within normal range whereas BR in FS was lower than normal range in shoulder joint. In elbow joint FS was significantly higher than ES (P< 0.05), and IR and BR were lower than normal range. Consequently, the different tendency in IR between shoulder and elbow joints and lower IR and BR in elbow joints could be the characteristics in male wheelchair tennis players. It is suggested that flexor strengthening program in nondominant shoulder joint, extensor strengthening program in both elbow joint, and flexor strengthening program in non-dominant elbow joint should be introduced for male wheelchair tennis players.

RESUMO

[Purpose] Scapular stabilizer strengthening exercise is crucial for shoulder rehabilitation. The purpose of this study was to compare two types of push-up plus exercises, on a stable and unstable bases of support, using surface electromyography (EMG), to suggest an effective shoulder rehabilitation program. [Subjects and Methods] Ten healthy men volunteered for this study. All volunteers performed two sets of push-up plus exercise (standard push up and knee push up) on stable and unstable bases of support. The muscle activities of five important scapular stabilizer muscles (upper trapezius, middle trapezius, lower trapezius, serratus anterior, latissimus dorsi) were recorded during the exercise. [Results] The upper trapezius showed greater mean electric activation amplitude in the scapular retraction posture than in the scapular protraction posture, and the serratus anterior showed greater mean electric activation amplitude in the scapular protraction posture than in the scapular retraction posture. The root-mean-square normalized EMG values of the muscles were greater during the exercise performed on the unstable support than those on the stable support. [Conclusion] The standard push-up plus exercise on an unstable base of support helps to increase muscle activity, especially those of the upper/middle trapezius and serratus anterior.
